Local Students Win DeLynn Scholarships
Heather McLean of University High School, Bryce Cumpston of Morgantown High School and Jamie Vankirk of the Morgantown Christian Academy are the current recipients of the Jean S. and Laurence DeLynn Scholarship awarded by the Greater Morgantown Community Trust, your local community foundation.
The scholarships provide a four-year (undergraduate) award of $20,000 to high school students who are children or grandchildren of current or retired full-time employees of Mylan Laboratories based in Mylan facilities located in Morgantown. The award is based on academic merit, leadership and financial need.
All three award recipients plan to attend West Virginia University in the Fall of 2009.
The DeLynns have been involved with many philanthropic efforts both in Morgantown and in their adopted home of Longboat Key, Florida. Laurence is a former member of the Board of Directors of Mylan Pharmaceuticals, One Valley Bank and currently, Centra Bank. Jean has been instrumental in fundraising for the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center. The Delynns established the current scholarship at GMCT to encourage qualified local students to achieve their educational goals in the program of their choice.
