Your Community Foundation of North Central West Virginia, Inc. (YCF) has 30 scholarship funds available for the 2017-2018 academic year.  Scholarship award amounts range from $250-$6,000 and many are renewable up to four years.

“Many generous community members desire to help local residents afford educational opportunities after high school,” said Patty Showers Ryan, YCF President.  “YCF provides a way to create scholarship funds while paying tribute to a loved one, an organization or recognizing an educational need in our community.”

YCF is a public charity created by and for the people of North Central West Virginia to manage multigenerational endowments.  Scholarships funds are invested and the annual earnings are made available to recipients based on the criteria established by the donor.  The scholarship continues in perpetuity.

During the 2016-2017 academic year, YCF awarded over $330,000 in scholarships to 95 students.  The recipients attend post-secondary trade or technical schools, junior colleges, or four-year undergraduate and graduate colleges or universities.  They seek degrees in nursing, pre-vet, engineering, law, music, culinary arts and other areas.  Some scholarships emphasize financial need and community leadership.  Several scholarships are available to all West Virginians with the majority supporting Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, and Preston County residents.

New scholarship opportunities become available each year.

“YCF is pleased to announce the establishment of the $1 million Woodrow W. Woods Scholarship Fund available in 2017 to Harrison County residents,” said Ms. Ryan.

The fund was established with an estate gift from Mr. Woodrow W. Woods of Clarksburg, WV who passed away on August 8, 1994.  Mr. Woods originally created an educational trust to loan “deserving and needy single boys and girls from Harrison County, W.Va.” money for post-secondary training or education in West Virginia.  The fund now resides with YCF for scholarship awards in the amount of $3,000-$5,000 depending on an applicant’s financial need.

In order to make the scholarship application process easier and more efficient, YCF is now accepting applications online.  All eligibility requirements and application links can be found on the YCF website at http://ycfwv.org/scholarships/
